European Parliament
Alexander Lambsdorff (ALDE ).
(DE)
Mr President, the MEPs belonging to the Free Democratic Party did participate in the vote on the report (No
) on the guidelines for the employment policies of the Member States. We did this out of a desire to express solidarity with our colleagues in promoting our group’s concerns, whilst nevertheless remaining convinced that employment policy is not a matter for the EU, and that this should be dealt with by the Member States rather than by us here in Strasbourg or in Brussels. If the European Union wants to be successful, it must concentrate on its essential functions, in accordance with the subsidiarity principle, which needs, in future, to be taken seriously and adhered to.
