The Committee on Development, on which I sit, worked with the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, which was responsible for this report on women’s situation in war. This report deals with the responsibility of women in peace negotiations as well as the impact of armed conflict across the globe on women. The report recommends the creation of a post of Special EU Representative on Women within the European External Action Service (EEAS) and calls on the Member States to put in place action plans to improve the situation of women in conflict countries. As I agree fully with the actions to be taken to improve the situation of women, I voted in favour of this report.
