The benefits brought to us by European Union competition policy in terms of consumer well-being are visible. In fact, EU competition policy is a key instrument in removing obstacles to the free movement of goods, services, people and capital, and remains essential to preserving the single market and protecting the interests of consumers. I agree with most of the recommendations regarding competition policy made by the rapporteur, so I voted for this report. I would just highlight the measures for controlling State aid, the anti-trust measures and the encouragement given to the European Commission to participate in the International Competition Network.
