In contrast to ‘live attenuated vaccines’, the new inactivated vaccines do not pose the risk of the undesired circulation of the vaccine virus and may therefore be successfully used outside areas subject to animal movement restrictions. I voted in favour, with the aim of making the rules on vaccination against bluetongue more flexible, in particular by allowing the use of inactivated vaccines outside areas subject to animal movement restrictions.
