If we are to have a strong single market that fosters jobs and growth it stands to reason that we need a simple and efficient payments system. If a company in London wishes to purchase materials from a Latvian supplier, the company should be able to make a payment quickly and easily irrespective of the fact that both countries are outside the euro area. I believe that this report makes positive recommendations to improve the Single European Payment Area (SEPA) and gives banks a sufficiently long period of grace to make their systems compliant.
