European Parliament
Kristiina Ojuland (ALDE ).
– Mr President, the regime of Bashar al-Assad is the target of tough sanctions from the international community, and this must continue. I regret that Russia and China have not yet joined us in these efforts. In addition to the economic sanctions, which have started to paralyse the criminal regime, we must also show our unconditional support to those who peacefully stand against it. The past year has shown us that the will of the people can overthrow any regime, no matter how strong.
My colleagues here today in the Plenary have proposed relevant and concrete measures that the EU should take, and I very much hope that we do not waste time in delivering a clear strategy towards Syria.
