Blind and visually impaired people have restricted access to books and other printed products. Thus, as many as 95% of all published works are never converted into ‘accessible formats’, such as Braille, large print or audio. I supported the adoption of this European Parliament resolution, which calls on the Council of the European Union and the European Commission to vote in favour of a treaty by the World Intellectual Property Organisation, establishing exceptions to intellectual copyright to prevent the blind and visually impaired suffering further discrimination in their access to culture.
