At present, only five per cent of all books and printed matter published are available in accessible formats, such as Braille, large print or audio formats. This represents a huge disadvantage for the blind and visually impaired population. For this reason, a legally binding copyright treaty is urgently needed in this area, in line with the ban on discrimination against people with disabilities enshrined in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
