It is crucial that the European public have simple and reliable access to European Union legal acts. The electronic version of the
Official Journal of the European Union
(OJ) enables this type of access and is a crucial instrument for information on the EU. Consulting paper versions of the OJ is a time-consuming, costly process, and very few users do it. The situation of electronic versions of legal acts not being legally binding must be overcome since it creates uncertainty as to the precise content of EU legal acts. I voted for this motion for a resolution because it contributes to legal certainty and to reducing the cost of accessing European Union legal acts for citizens and businesses.
