I voted in favour of this report because I am in favour of the recommendations on the law applicable to non-contractual obligations, as set forth in the Rome II Regulation. The basic principle will, therefore, be rounded off by a foreseeability clause. In a democratic society such as ours, the right to a private life is a fundamental and sacrosanct right. When personal freedom is violated, it must be possible to take legal action. The goal is to ensure both freedom of expression and the right to privacy in a way that maintains a balance between these two priorities.
