Mr President, Mr Fox, we should always be optimistic. Anything can happen. They may see the light.
I think that when faced with reality, with the problems of the economic crisis and the need to obtain financial means in a fair way, and also to avoid speculation and ensure the reform of financial activity, everyone can see that this tax would be useful.
To reiterate my view, I would like this tax to be established at European Union level. If is it necessary to go in at a lower level, it must not go too low geographically, so as not to create distorted competition, which would be detrimental.
I hope that the Member States who are not currently in favour of it will see the light. I am counting on Mr Šemeta’s conviction to drive this report forwards, and I encourage him to do so.
