I voted for the new agreement because it affirms the need to take a balanced trade approach towards China, aiming to create partnerships founded on honesty and reciprocity. This could revitalise fair Chinese competition, including through the establishment of a body to monitor Chinese investments in European enterprises. The ultimate aim is the best possible coordination, covering not only trade issues but also matters such as development, democracy and human rights, adhering to the European vision of social and democratic progress.
