European Parliament

I voted in favour of the Martin report on the detailed provisions governing the exercise of the European Parliament’s right of inquiry, which proposes a definition of the provisions governing the European Parliament’s right of inquiry. Parliament acquired this right with the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon and subject to the consent of the Council. Under Article 226, the European Parliament may, at the request of one quarter of its component members, set up a temporary committee of inquiry to investigate alleged contraventions or maladministration in the implementation of Community law. In order to clarify this provision, the text covers the subject matter and general rules on the establishment of a committee of inquiry as well as the investigation.
