I am also pleased that we have spoken out in favour of the mandatory introduction of the electronic eCall emergency system. If it will be possible to save an estimated 2 500 lives per year and reduce the number of serious injuries, then this must be a good system. However, as always, it is important to evaluate the practicability of the plan. Is it really possible for the system only to be activated in the event of a serious accident? What constitutes a serious accident? Is the car drivers’ data really secure? And, most importantly, what will the mandatory introduction of the emergency call system cost? I would ask everyone to think carefully about these and any other questions that arise. I would also like to emphasise once again how much I welcome this system, particularly as I cover long distances every week in my car.
