With regard to the trade aspects of the whole Eastern partnership, establishing Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas (DCFTAs) with the EU will definitely produce tangible long-term benefits for all stakeholders. However, I think that the measures for some key sectors of activity supporting these states’ economic development must be examined and regulated more widely from the perspective of the EU’s policies, such as the SME sector and research and innovation. I am concerned about the unstable political and economic situation in some of the states in the region, which needs to be closely monitored. This is why I think that we need to be cautious but, at the same time, continue the steps involving the flexible economic arrangements given to the relevant countries, as well as the institutional support.
