Mr President, I am concerned that in some Member States, people do not have the opportunity to access basic banking services and there is still cumbersome red tape involved. As a result, the use of e-commerce and online fund transfers is at a very low level. This initiative is absolutely vital for supporting consumers who are financially vulnerable and those who are commercially less attractive, who will have access from now on to basic payment accounts without any restrictions imposed by banks for subjective reasons, thereby enjoying simplified procedures.
I think that banking service providers must be motivated from now on to target their efforts at wide-ranging campaigns aimed at encouraging and informing the public.
