European Parliament
Daciana Octavia Sârbu (S&D ),
in writing.
I supported this resolution tabled by the Committee on Petitions. It reflects the concerns raised by many citizens and repeats the calls for action we made in our written declaration on this subject last year. I am disappointed that the European Commission has not responded more positively to our written declaration, to which a large majority of members of this House gave their support. The Commission must consider what options are available at EU level and determine which measures would best enable us to improve the situation regarding stray animals. The animal welfare and public health issues that arise from the problem of strays are common to several Member States, and EU action is both appropriate and necessary.
