I voted in favour of the text on access to banking services in order to call on the Commission to submit legislation enabling all European citizens to have access to a bank account. Seven per cent of the adult population of the EU, namely around 30 million people, currently do not have a bank account. The most deprived are those who suffer from this restriction of not having access to basic banking services. Moreover, access to a bank account is essential for the social inclusion of all and the access of all to employment, health care and housing.
